Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar
Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar is a must try restaurant in the Downtown Disney district serving unique Spanish cuisine, just steps from Disneyland in Anaheim.
Lovely and light Spanish cuisine is the specialty at Catal, a Downtown Disney establishment, just a short walk from the entrance of Disneyland and California Adventure in Anaheim. Spanning four unique dining areas, diners can choose between the upstairs windowed rotunda with warm yellow walls and panoramic views or the upscale fireplace room, decked out in rich earth tones with plenty of intimate lighting. There’s also an outdoor terrace overlooking all the action, as well as the Uva Bar downstairs.
Catal Tapas
Chef Nicholas Weber has been serving up mouth-watering meals for Catal, a member of Patina Restaurant Group, since 1997. The menu varies seasonally, but always begins with tapas like Marinated Spanish Olives with pickled guindilla peppers, or Crispy Pork Chicharrónes dusted with chili-limon.
The salads are unusually good at Catal, made with an artistry that features subtly juxtaposed flavors. The Manchego Cheese Salad with wild arugula includes red apples, dates, candied walnuts, and toasted walnut vinaigrette—a must try dish. It’s one of the best salads you can find in Los Angeles, with thin slices of manchego cheese (from the La Mancha region of Spain) serving as the perfect companion to refreshing bites of sliced apples and sweet bursts of dates.
Catal Specialties
In addition to steaks, pasta, and rice dishes, Catal also prepares several specialities that include show-stoppers such as Roasted Halibut with olive oil poached artichoke, black olives, potato mousseline, and blood orange essence. All this is topped with caviar, creating a delicate balance of textures—from creamy sauce to soft potatoes, to crunchy baked crust and rich nutty artichoke hearts.
Equally delicious is the Paella à la Valencia, made with bay scallops, clams, mussels, shrimp, chicken, and chorizo with saffron rice and aïoli.
Definitely save room for Catal’s dangerously tempting desserts. Give the Farmer’s Market Fruit Sundae a try for something truly different: the bottom layer is mascarpone cream with fresh blueberries and strawberries sandwiched between mint granita in the center. All this goodness is stacked beneath a layer of balsamic vinegar ice cream, to produce an eccentric take on the traditional ice cream sundae!
It’s mouthwateringly fantastic. The balsamic vinegar ice cream contains just the slightest hint of an oily base, but that flavor remains ghostly faint. If you didn’t know this was balsamic vinegar ice cream, you would just guess it was a coffee-based flavor. The richness of mascarpone cream, coupled with refreshing mint and fruit, is exceptional when paired with this unusual ice cream.
Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar is a world-class eatery with great views of Downtown Disney, good service, modern California flare, and food that is simply intoxicating. It’s a stop not to be missed by Disneyland day-trippers, and is well worth the trip to Anaheim for all hungry Angelinos.
